I cut these squirrels from wood then stain them and paint in the details, then lacquer them. An acrylic acorn with a wood acorn cap dangles from each. These measure 3 inches from top to bottom, but are very light-weight.

I use niobium ear wires because niobium is one of the most hypoallergenic and non-reactive metals available (more so than sterling silver, which may contain small amounts of nickel and other reactive metals).
